AFTRS graduate and award-winning writer and director, Jo-Anne Brechin, brings bold stories to life on both the big and small screen. Named “Young Filmmaker of the Year” at Cockatoo Island Film Festival, Jo-Anne’s work has played on Netflix, Amazon Prime, iTunes, ABC, SBS and has screened at film festivals across Australia and around the world, including GBiennale21, MIFF, CinefestOz, Byron Bay, Gold Coast Film Fest and in competition at the Academy-Accredited Flickerfest.

 

Her debut feature film Zelos was created in partnership with Screen Australia, Definition Films (The Water Diviner, Samson & Delilah) and The Steve Jaggi Company (Dive Club) and was released on iTunes and Amazon Prime. 

 

Her second feature dramedy Paper Champions features John Tui (The Hobbit, Fast & Furious, Solo: A Star Wars Story), Gary Sweet (The Pacific, House Husbands) and Genevieve Morris (Ride Like A Girl, Bloom) and is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix. As the highest selling Australian film at MIFF, Paper Champions gained much media buzz, featuring on platforms like Today Extra, The Age, IF Magazine and Nova FM.

 

During COVID, Jo-Anne directed the final episode of Liberty Street, a hilarious and heartfelt webseries about lockdown. The impressive cast includes comedian Susie Youssef (Rosehaven) and Catherine Van Davies (Hungry Ghosts). 

 

Commercially, she has created TVCs and content for brands including Red Bull, Samsung, Virgin Australia, Coles, NAB, ING Direct, First State Super, Headspace, Tourism Australia, Cochlear, Colonial First State and Greenpeace, to name a few.

 

Jo-Anne currently has multiple series and feature film projects in development with Screen Australia and other industry partners.
